Vice Admiral James R. Fitzgerald, U.S. Navy (Retired), served 35 years in surface ships. His three command-at-sea tours included an FDNF frigate, the Pacific Fleet ASW Squadron, and a strike group. Ashore, he served two tours on the Chief of Naval Operations staff and current operations officer on the staff of the Joint Chiefs.
